86 Is This
Meeting Really Necessary?
Major Time wasters.
Meetings are killers because of the numbers involved. Even
two people in a meeting can be a major time waster.
Estimates peg that 60 % to 70 % of the meetings people have
are not necessary. A simple rule of thumb I use for whether
a meeting is required or not. If the answers and questions
for the proposed meeting can fit on a single page, this
meeting is probably a waste of time. Use the phone, mail,
email, conference call, any other method but a face to face
meeting. The likely hood that the face to face meeting will
stretch on long after its effectiveness has worn off is
huge.
87 Work Smarter-
Not Harder
This saying is over
worked, but under utilized. It’s a power saying but it is
not paid attention to any where near enough. This is covered
in some detail in the PTS and covered a lot in the Power
Productivity Maximizer site. I’m not one who shies away from
hard work. That is not the issue here, what is at stake here
is working harder than you necessarily have to. Working your
butt off and wasting time and energy, when with a little
planning and thinking in advance, you could have gotten the
same results, maybe even better results with less effort, is
the issue here.
The repeating thought that
keeps resurfacing is think, plan and invest your time to
reap the maximum results from your time and efforts. This is
why Time Management and Productivity go hand in hand. As you
get farther and farther into your introduction to Time
Management, you will I hope, start to see the subtleties
emerge that make this journey so
interesting.
88 You have to
Have Confidence
Your time will never be
well spent until you can relax and have confidence in the
fact you are on the right track and you are doing the right
things at the right time. To get that confidence you have to
have the right System in place for you. This isn’t a sell
job for our System; it’s a sell job for a System, any
System
You need to be able to get
to bed at night and feel that you are in the right hands,
your hands. A crucial step in getting in charge of your time
and results is to be able to relax and have faith in the
course you have embarked on. That can only happen when you
are working in conjunction and with in the confines of a
routine that makes you feel comfortable relaxed and in
control.
It does not matter what I
say or preach, what matters is how you feel and the results
you are getting. When it’s all said and done, the acid test
is this, are you happier and better off than you were
before?
89 The Real
Purpose Of The Power Time System
The real purpose of any
system is to allow us to get them day to day stuff under
control so we can free up some time to do what we should be
doing more of, thinking of the things that will elevate our
lives and existence to a higher level. The more activities
and tasks we can relegate to the automatic, don’t have to
really think about it stage, the more time we will have to
think of the issues and things that make are lives more
interesting and fun.
Start to look at getting
things under control and the way you do that as an exercise
that will free you up to get creative, get more adventurous
and just have more fun.
90 Get Good, Then
get Wired
People are always asking
me why I don’t put the PTS into a computer program. The
answer is simple; it does not work in that format. I spent
quite of bit of time working on several formats that
incorporated the PTS into a number of existing programs on
the market to day. There was a definite drop in the
effectiveness of the System and something was lost in the
translation from written to keypunch.
I’m firm believer
you have to get good, and then you can get fast. Walk before
you run comes to mind. We all learn and absorb things
differently. You may feel more comfortable moving what we
have to offer directly to you computer. Be sure you have
mastered the nuances and feeling, flavor of the System
before you make this move.
