You will never “find“ time for anything. If you want time you must make it”

  Charles Buxton

GET SERIOUS.  GET REAL.

I have said these 4 words repeatedly in every seminar that I have ever given, guaranteed. I also say it over the phone, in emails, in articles, in newsletters and many more times than I would like to remember.  When I say it person, I’m always in an exasperated mood. It goes something like this:

Someone has just told me they are not getting enough done at work, they don’t seem to get what they want done, when they want to do it or when it has to be done. They are always rushed, in a hurry and are stressed out most, if not all of the time. The fact they are not happy with or at work is now impacting their home life.

The same person now gives me a list of ALL of the things they want to do, at work, at home, socially; a complete run down of their goals, wish list and priorities. It’s a long discussion; there are a lot of things this person wants to do and accomplish over the next few years, stretching well into the future.

This is where I ask them a simple question, “What have you done to make sure everything you have just told me happens and that you end up being happy and fulfilled at the end?”  I think that’s a reasonable question, don’t you?

This is where we get a prolonged silence and a somewhat blank stare.  After a period of time has passed, we end up coming to the conclusion that this person, who is already struggling, is not happy, not doing well and is not productive now, wants to add another huge layer of activities on top of their already over-flowing plate. The cherry on top of the sundae is, we are somehow going to dig ourselves out from under the first mess, dump yet another huge mess on top of the first one, all without having a plan of any kind and apparently without any effort.

Get Serious! Get Real!

Do you want a better life?  Do you want to accomplish more things in the same amount of time you do them in now?  Do you want to reduce your stress levels and be happier?  Guess what, it takes work, dedication and commitment.  You have to get real and align where you are now and where you want to be. There is a path between those two points. You have to cross the distance and, in doing so, change your way of doing things and change old habits that were not productive.  You have to get serious and develop a plan, and work that plan.

Listed below are just some of the tools you will find in the Power Time System to help you get serious and real about reining in your time and getting more productivity out of the same amount of hours.

R Get your ideas, goals, wishes, and priorities down in black and white. Use your PTS Day Planner for this. This should be an ongoing activity that grows and evolves over time.  Having this living list is crucial, to work on, to alter, and to refer to it when you are allocating your time.

R Prioritizing your living list is the next step. Until you start to prioritize this list, it will just be a jumble of words and sentences. Until you start to move things around, start to say, “this is what is really important to me", “and this is not as important”, you will be lacking focus and direction. The physical process of prioritizing your living list starts to give you a sense of how much there is and a rough approximation of the amount of time that will be required and the order in which things will be done.

R Time Activating the things you want to do is one of the missing steps that almost everyone neglects.  This omission is what really gets them into trouble. When you start this process, very quickly the reality sinks in that, for everything on your living list, there has to be a corresponding box of time available for you to perform that activity. This is always a reality check for everyone.

These are just 3 of the tools you will find in the Power Time System, covered in much more detail. These three are what we refer to as Irrefutables. The name is fairly descriptive of the importance we place on these three strategies. There is a lot more free content on this site, I hope you enjoy reading and ponder this material. It will be time well spent.
