7 Week Introduction To The Power Time System

Welcome to The Power Time System. This 7 week introduction to us is a way for you to get to know us a little better and to see how we handle some aspects of Time Management. I’ve taken 7 pieces of the PTS and broken them down over the next 7 weeks. You will be getting a section every week, by e-mail. Each section is short, 2 to 5 pages long. At the end of each section there will be some suggested activities that pertain to the section you will have just received.

By the end of the 7 weeks, you will have a good read on what we are about, and how we go about dealing with Time Management. I hope as you review this material that you give some thought to the issues and ideas we present.

Week 1

“How Do You Eat an Elephant? “

We deal with this question as it pertains to getting started on your Time Management journey. We could just as easily name this section, “How do you start a journey of a 1,000 miles? “ Both answers are small steps, small bites at a time. Some times when we see a large task ahead of us, we hesitate to start because of the enormity of what lies ahead of us. Tackling gaining back control of your time can be a daunting job. We show you how with just small changes to your current schedule you can reap immediate and substantial benefits.

Week 2

   “Out of your Head “

   “Into The System “

   “Onto The Paper “

This week we get into some issues that get right into the core of the System. One of the reasons we call what we do, a System, is the fact we have systems, policies, procedures, tools, tricks of the trade, specific ways of dealing with every day occurrences. With out this structure, there is no foundation to build on, there is no point of reference and making any meaningful progress would be by chance at best.

Week 3

   “Time Management Isn’t a Destination, Its A Journey “

This is a pivotal concept and critically important to understanding the process you will be working with. Getting your head around this concept and buying into our philosophy will greatly enhance your chances of getting a successful conclusion to your participation with us here. Time Management is not a skill you learn in a set period of time and then move on. Time Management is a way of life that you will hone over a long period of time.

Week 4

  “Life List “

Part of the process to get better control of your time and by doing that, control of your life, is to start developing your “ Life List “. This is a process you can start now without any other parts of the System in place. In order to gain control of your time and to start to get better productivity from the hours you do invest, you have to know the size of the situation you are and will be dealing with.   Your Life List is a collection of all the things you want to do, for the rest of your life. If that sounds like a large under taking, it is. Compiling your Life List is a large undertaking for a large and extremely important task. The process of gaining back control of your time starts with compiling and working on your own personal Life List.

Week 5

  “Prioritizing “

One of the key reasons people lose control of there time is that they allow activities and tasks that are not important to there personal success crowd out the things that they truly wanted to do in the first place. Proper Time Management is all about doing more of the things you want to do and controlling the things you don’t want to do. A key element of the Power Time System is our process of prioritizing your key activities and enabling you to spend more time on these activities at the expense of less important activities.

Week 6

  “Action Oriented “

The Power Time System is action oriented. The System is meant to collect, disseminate, sort out, organize, and prioritize your entire tasks and jobs. This is in preparation for the final phase, the action phase. With out this phase, the entire process is futile. Leaving un  finished, un resolved, un sorted tasks out there is the core reason we feel rushed, hurried and disorganized. When you have a system that puts everything in its right order and then ensures that what should gets done, does in fact get done.  You start to feel that your are in charge and accomplishing what you want to accomplish when it should be done.

Week 7

“Time Is A Non Renewable Resource “

Time is like land, they are not making any more of it. We all have the same seconds in a minute, the same minutes in an hour. Some of us make better use of the time we are all given. It’s an important step in the process when the reality of the value of time is translated into our attitude about how we use and waste this valuable resource. We take an aggressive approach to protecting our time. In any given day there are hundreds of ways that your time can be squandered and wasted, many of them in the guise of legitimate uses for your time. The key element here is that your time should be spent on the activities that will best serve you and your goals and aspirations.

These 7 pieces of the puzzle are the tip of the ice berg. I hope they give you pause to reflect, something to mull over as you think about your time and the results you are getting from how you use and invest this valuable resource. I hope you enjoy this material and you ad some, if not all of the points we cover into your daily regime.
